One Week Old

Evan is one week and one day old! As Ian expertly put it, it does not feel like one week, but the longest day ever. It has been one fantastic day though. Like I said in my earlier post, it feels like everything Evan does is this amazing feat, including something as simple as nodding his head. I will try to avoid writing about head nodding, but no promises.

I still do not have enough brain power to write a big blog post, but I can post the highlights of the week after we got back from the hospital. Here we go!

While I made sure Evan had his first tea time at the hospital, Ian made sure that once home Evan immediately started supporting the local breweries in Colorado.  He looks nonplussed about it - perhaps he prefers tea?

After Evan's first foray into the beer world, we went on our first walk outside.

We also managed to make it to not one, but two doctor's appointments. The appointments are strangely stressful as the weigh ins are a very important indicator of if our little man is getting enough food. Fortunately Evan gained 2 ounces in two days, showing that he is clearly going to be a big strong dude.

All dressed up for the doc!
We also had our first storytime as well.  Of course, it occurred at 4 in the morning after Evan decided that he was no longer interested in sleeping during the nighttime. Totally worth it for the adorableness that ensured when Ian read Chicka Chicka Boom Boom with voices.  Evan stopped crying and listened intently.  He may take after his parents' love of reading.

The last big event of the week was celebrating Evan's 1 week birthday. As a special treat Pop Pop and Mum Mum got him a cupcake.  While he didn't get to nom on it directly, he was very entertained by blowing out the candle.

All in all, it was a a very eventful week. Ian and I have been very, VERY lucky for all the help that Evan's grandparents have provided, but are slowly starting to figure things out. Each day has new challenges (poop turns yellow and terrifying!) and successes (I think he rolled on his side on purpose!).  All in all, it is undeniably worth it.  I wonder what next week will bring!

Introducing Evan Bennet Oliver

We did it! Evan Benett Oliver arrived February 12 at 8:58 am weighing in at 8 pounds 2 ounces and measuring 21.5 inches!! We stayed in the hospital 2 nights and were home by Friday afternoon. I thought that I would have time before now to get going on the blog, but turns out having a newborn at home keeps you a bit busy. I will try not to make this a giant photo dump, but it also turns out that having a newborn makes you think everything he does is the most amazing and cute photo op ever. So, let's start at the hospital....

This is us once we got to rose medical center.

Fast forward a few hours (10ish) and then came Evan:

We all were a bit tired...

Ian was quite proud.

I made sure that Evan got his first tea within 24 hours.

He was quite content for a while...

But then we had a bit of a rough night. Finally Ian and Evan both were able to get to sleep, expertly swaddled.

The next day we were able to pull it together and take the family photo.

And a few cute ones of Evan, including the infamous heisman photo and the one where Evan is wearing his helmet and booties made by his great-grandma Matto:

Evan was met at the hospital by his mom-mom, pop-pop and pops!

We left the hospital on Friday, happy to make it home.

Finally home!

At home he was met by his Mama Lisa.

There has been plenty of exciting things that have happened since we arrived home like Evan's first story time that I will post soon!

D-Day

We have made it to the due date! There were a few hiccups along the way, but Buttons is now fully cooked and ready to go! I am also fully cooked and ready to go - my parents are in town, my 'family leave' has started as of today, and even my maternity clothes don't quite cover la belly anymore.

It's a funny feeling, being ready for something that you have no control over.  I have tried all the labor inducing tips I received - except for laying brickwork, it's tough to do that in the snow - no success yet. I am now trying to not think about it, as if playing hard to get will convince Buttons to come out.  And then there is the oh-so-tempting possibility of having some certainty through an induction. I won't go into that here, but I have found that this topic (along with the Drugs) is one of the most devisive issues I've run across during pregnancy. Hopefully I won't have to make that decision.

So to stave off the inevitable boredom/anxiety/urge to repack my hospital bag one more time, I am coming up with one more list: all the fun things I can do while we wait for Buttons!

Here is what I have so far...

1. Prenatal massage
2. Watch as many random Winter Olympics sports as I can find (is there something stranger than curling- we'll find out!)
3. Go to a movie on a weekday.
4. See if I can still paint my toenails. There will be no pictures of this.

Any others ideas?
